Author: Janos MeloccoBorn in Budapest, 1961, I was exposed to Yoga and esoteric thought early on by my grandmother’s esoteric group. I started Transcendental Meditation at the age of 17. Having studied English, Latin and philosophy, my first wife and I decided to go West when I was 23 – at the start of my Saturn dasha. I lived in the U.S. for 12 years, finishing college. I had my very first Jyotish reading in Washington, D.C, in 1990. Jyotish made a lifelong impression on me – right away, the pandit could tell when I’d left Hungary. I decided to learn jyotish as a hobby – first from books like the BPHS or James Braha’s “Eastern Astrology for Western Minds.” After my return to Hungary, I took longer Jyotish summer courses in English, with exams: our teacher was Zarko Trisic (who still practices in Belgrade, Serbia). My first reading by Maria Csom in Budapest was a breakthrough: I realized this was a spiritual calling. Studying the nakshatras in her Budapest group made me want become a practicing astrologer. So I bought a used laptop and started to do readings and introductory courses around Budapest from the spring of 2004. Our Budapest group was mainly studying the nakshatras and sharing stories, trying techniques. My first web site came online in 2006. I gave readings abroad, and wrote analyses to the U.K, Australia and the United States. Later I joined forums and soon I discovered Joni Patry’s web site, ordered her introductory book and became a regular reader. Neo-Vedic astrology feels very familiar to me, laying more emphasis on nakshatras and using outer planets. Finally, I published my Hungarian book “Út és Sors” [Path and Destiny] in 2012, summing up ten years of nakshatra studies.
